MzTiffany Divine Interviews Lacha’ Mithcell

MTD: I would like to thank you for allowing me to interview you. Now to the juicy stuff. Now Lacha’, have you always wanted to be a writer?
Lacha’ Mitchell: Yes, I have always been a writer when I was younger and my love of English and spelling helped grow my love for putting words together into sentences and sentences into paragraphs.

MTD: I understand that you are in the ministry, was this something you always wanted to do?
Lacha’ Mitchell: NO, lol- I cannot say that ministry is always something I wanted to do. While I was a youth- church going was maybe twice a year… you know on Christmas and Easter- but my cousin told me after I was called into the ministry many years later that she knew it would be me. She told me that I was always the one who wanted to play church and had a bible ready to teach somebody something that I could barely read. So while I have embraced what God has called me into, I didn’t know that I would ever be saved or want to serve God until I began to learn of Him and that’s when my love grew and I got saved at the age of 23.

MTD: What has been your greatest obstacle as a writer?
Lacha’ Mitchell: My greatest obstacle has been consistency. Making sure that I wrote at least ten minutes a day with my first book. I knew I loved to write poetry and other things, but I lacked discipline. I’m good with that now. So now my greatest obstacle is marketing and not being a well known author is like pulling teeth to get some type of recognition and or fan base outside of family and friends.

MTD: So can you tell me what you want readers to get from your present work?
Lacha’ Mitchell:: I want my readers to be inspired to effect change in their life, in the world. That it doesn’t take gang-banging, murders, illicit sex and profane behavior and or language that show our sisters- God’s best how to devalue themselves or allow others to in order to have a great book.

MTD: What inspires you to write?
Lacha’ Mitchell:: My love for reading, and empowering others with knowledge through real life situations.

MTD: How do you research the materials for your work?
Lacha’ Mitchell: Google and I have become good friends- well great friends. The world wide web has a plethora of information on anything you could ever think to research. Also, situations that our youth deal with today and even some of the things I have endured as a child.

MTD: Do you create characters before you begin your story?
Lacha’ Mitchell: The story comes before my characters in my mind. Then I create the characters for the story.

MTD: Are there notable authors who have influenced your writing?
Lacha’ Mitchell: Yes, of course. Lol, don’t laugh- but I go way back. Judy Blume, ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Nikkea Smithers, Vanessa Miller and countless others.

MTD: What do you have coming up next for your readers?
Lacha’ Mitchell: I am in the process of completing Volume two for Destiny’s Child Teen Series, I am working on a short story for publication in 2012 entitled Sunday Best, I am co-authoring a inspirational book with my literary mentor and partner Jahzara entitled “Ladies, What’s Blocking Your Flow?” Destiny Awaits, and I am preparing to write my first movie script/documentary.

MTD: Do you travel to book stores, book clubs or doing meeting via skype?
Lacha’ Mitchell: Traveling is in the works. I am available as well depending on the distance for in person book club meetings. I am a face to face person and love the interaction with my readers.

MTD: Now, I know this is gonna start some controversy, but who are some of your biggest supports? Lacha’ Mitchell: Why- My biggest and main one would be God. Jahzara Bradley, Nikkea Smithers, Doris Peoples, Shakira Austin, 21blackstreet.com, Urban Reviews, MztiffanyDivine- my family. It’s no secret and no controversy- in some way each of these people, groups have encouraged me to keep writing, allowed me to post my book information on their sites etc, chosen my book to review. It gets hard to keep striving and staying in the game when you see everyone else moving ahead of you and your motive and heart are pure toward your vision.

MTD: What’s the one thing you want your writers to know about Lacha’?
Lacha’ Mitchell: That I am very passionate about my gift and empowering the youth and young adults (females) with knowledge and inspire them by letting them know through my stories that God is able to bring them out of whatever storm they may have to go through.
